Iron-On vs Velcro vs Sew-On Backing
How each backing attaches, how permanent it is and which patch types it works with.

Backing decides how your patch attaches — and how long it stays there.
Sew-on
A clean back designed to be stitched in place. The most permanent option and the right choice for workwear and items that are washed often.
Iron-on
Heat-activated adhesive on the back. Apply with a household iron or heat press on cotton and poly blends. Quick and easy; for heavy-use garments, a few stitches around the edge add security. Not suitable for PVC, silicone or leather patches.
Velcro (hook & loop)
Hook backing attaches to loop panels on gear and uniforms, so patches are removable and swappable. "Hook & loop" means we supply both sides.
Peel & stick
Temporary adhesive for events, giveaways and short-term use.
No backing
A plain back — useful if you'll sew the patch yourself or attach it another way.
Choosing quickly
- Permanent on clothing → Sew-on - Easy application for customers → Iron-on - Gear, uniforms, swappable → Velcro - One-day events → Peel & stick
